Question by rbrumbaugh22: Are there any online colleges that offer associates degree as a physical therapist assistant?
I was wondering if anyone out there can help me decide the best online distance learning college that is accredited who offers an associate’s degree as a physical therapist assistant? I have been getting feedback that getting into that profession is a great idea as it is very rewarding with excellent benefits and pay. I love to help people and make them feel better. But I am going to pursue my career in pediatrics because I want to help children. Can anyone help me with the best school that i can do online from home? Thanks to all and god bless!

Best answer:

Answer by mistify
I am sorry to tell you that there are no online physical therapy assistant programs (not to be confused with a physical therapy aide). Even the APTA states directly on their website that CAPTE (the organization that accredits PT and PTA programs) does not/will not accredit any online programs for these professions. These are hands on careers; and, therefore, require a hands on education. If you want to become a PTA you need to go to a live, accredited program available at many community colleges. You can go to the education section of http://www.apta.org to get a list of accredited PTA programs.

However, there ARE online schools for a physical therapy AIDE/TECH position. This is NOT the same as a PTA. In all honesty, I think these programs (such as those offered by Penn Foster) are a waste of time and money. The aide position is primarily an on the job trained position with very limited patient contact (however that also depends on your state). Most aides are not allowed any patient contact except under the direct line of site supervision of a PT or PTA. Since you are receiving this level of supervision, I see little reason to become “certified” as an aide/tech. The eduction (which lasts from about 6 months to a year) hardly seems worth a $ 9-$ 10 an hour job. Go for 1 extra year to become a PTA and you will nearly double your income. However, if you really want to become a tech, just know that you do not need any formal education to become one. All of our techs at our facility were trained on the job. Their primary responsibilities include clerical work, cleaning the gym, and providing assitance during treatments (such as helping the therapist stand a patient, etc). Furthermore, the APTA nor CAPTE is not currently endorsing any aide training programs.

Answer by retiredcpa
There may be. But be sure to check with the licensing board in your state. Some boards do not accept online courses in your particular field. If this is the case, you will have the education, but ineligible to be licensed to teach in your state.

Question by Bobby: Is online degree fake?if yes then why don’y they shut down all institutes ,colleges &universities?
I ma trying to get admission in devry university (new york city)but they have 90% online courses you have to go in campus only 3 hours a week and they offer BA in 3 years instead of 4 years.
I am confused what to do . please please please help me

Best answer:

Answer by eri
Some online degrees are fake, and some aren’t. You have to do your research to make sure they are actually making you earn a degree instead of selling one to you, that they don’t have numerous complaints against them, that they aren’t considered a diploma mill, and that other colleges and employers accept the credits you earn there.

There are many advantages to an in-person education over an online one, not the least of which is interaction with professors and the opportunity to get involved in research projects.

Question by : Are the online colleges for life work degrees legitimate?

Best answer:

Answer by eri
No. Very few real colleges accept life experience for credit, and the very few that do require you to back up that experience with substantial documentation and often a related test or project, and still require at least half of the credits for a degree be earned through coursework. A real bachelors degree takes 4 or more years to earn; any online program promising you’ll be done in substantially less time is a scam.

Question by Natashia: Do any online colleges offer science as a degree?
Are there any online degree programs for areas of science such as chemistry, astronomy, or physics? I wasn’t sure if it is even possible to obtain that kind of bachelors degree without labs. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by altaira_3
Yes there probably are but they would be a complete waste of time. Getting a lab based degree on-line will not provide you with any of the practical lab experiences that you’d need for getting a job in the field or furthering your education. No company is going to hire a chemistry major who has never actually set foot in a lab. And no graduate program would accept lab-based classes taken on-line.

Question by tashyntater: What are some good colleges that will allow me to earn a degree online?
I have heard of several. The University of Phoenix, Stratford University, etc. I was just wondering if there were anymore that have a good reputation that I could consider.
The reason I am only looking at online colleges is because I am a single mother and I work full time. I’m not able to actually go to a campus college.

Best answer:

Answer by soniakidman
well do you already have a career? On line college you end up paying much more…especially the colleges you mention.

I have bachelors from cal state system and I don’t have any loans on my head. And other things people don’t know about in campus Universities or community colleges that most of the classes are offered on line and they are cheaper then private colleges.

90% of my classes were online and I was an in campus student.

I am currently taking online classes through University of Phoenix. I a mnot really sure if I like it there and I am interested in some other colleges that offer online degree programs. I love in upstate NY but want to take my degree online. what are some good schools.

Best answer:

Answer by xo379
First of all, U Phoenix is basically a worthless degree. Employers do not respect it; U Phoenix is seen as a “diploma mill”–ie. all you have to do is pay and you can get a degree. Not good. It has been sued a number of times by graduates.
You should be in an online program that is an extension of a school that has a physical campus and has a good reputation. These schools include:
UMass
Boston U
U Cincinatti
U Illinois at Chicago
U New England
U Florida
Northeastern
Boston U
Bowling Green State
George Washington U

*Note that some of these programs are only for certain majors.

The following colleges are on par with Phoenix in terms of reputation, so avoid the following:
Capella
Kaplan
Westwood
Ashford
DeVry
American Intercontinental
Liberty
Walden
