Find a bricks and mortar university and sign up. Many classes you can take on-line. Others you will have to attend in person. If you are going to spend time and money on a degree do it from an accredited university, or your degree will be worthless. On-line degrees are not respected, and most are meaningless. Question by me: Is an Online college degree in Technology any good?!?
I will be attending a private university: University of Phoenix and was wondering if an online degree in IT will be any good? thanks!

Answer by nothingholdingmeback
University of Phoenix has a very sketchy reputation (google it). Regardless, it seems like a field IT should be done along with hands on experience. If you choose UOP, or any other school, I think it would best to do it in a classroom setting (or at least find a job where you can apply what you are learning).

Question by Sick_of_Crybabies: How do you feel about an online psychology degree?
I’m 23 and I studied Sociology during my undergrad. I want to pursue a post graduate and PhD program for clinical Psychology with University of Phoenix but I’m afraid of how employers might view my credentials.

Honestly, I’m kind of skeptical about an online PhD, especially if you plan on treating patients. Make very, very sure that the school is properly accredited. It might make more sense to take some basic classes online or at a local community college and then apply to a brick-and-mortar school. Especially with the job market the way it is now, you don’t want to be at any kind of disadvantage.

Question by Ryan B: Are online college degrees legit?
I don’t have time to go to a local university to study, and am interested in doing independent study to breeze through the material quickly. Any thoughts?

Most are legit, but I wouldn’t use one because I don’t have the motivation to do school work without being forced to go everyday. Good luck if that’s the route you choose.

Question by rbrumbaugh22: Are there any online colleges that offer associates degree as a physical therapist assistant?
I was wondering if anyone out there can help me decide the best online distance learning college that is accredited who offers an associate’s degree as a physical therapist assistant? I have been getting feedback that getting into that profession is a great idea as it is very rewarding with excellent benefits and pay. I love to help people and make them feel better. But I am going to pursue my career in pediatrics because I want to help children. Can anyone help me with the best school that i can do online from home? Thanks to all and god bless!

I am sorry to tell you that there are no online physical therapy assistant programs (not to be confused with a physical therapy aide). Even the APTA states directly on their website that CAPTE (the organization that accredits PT and PTA programs) does not/will not accredit any online programs for these professions. These are hands on careers; and, therefore, require a hands on education. If you want to become a PTA you need to go to a live, accredited program available at many community colleges. You can go to the education section of http://www.apta.org to get a list of accredited PTA programs.
However, there ARE online schools for a physical therapy AIDE/TECH position. This is NOT the same as a PTA. In all honesty, I think these programs (such as those offered by Penn Foster) are a waste of time and money. The aide position is primarily an on the job trained position with very limited patient contact (however that also depends on your state). Most aides are not allowed any patient contact except under the direct line of site supervision of a PT or PTA. Since you are receiving this level of supervision, I see little reason to become “certified” as an aide/tech. The eduction (which lasts from about 6 months to a year) hardly seems worth a $ 9-$ 10 an hour job. Go for 1 extra year to become a PTA and you will nearly double your income. However, if you really want to become a tech, just know that you do not need any formal education to become one. All of our techs at our facility were trained on the job. Their primary responsibilities include clerical work, cleaning the gym, and providing assitance during treatments (such as helping the therapist stand a patient, etc). Furthermore, the APTA nor CAPTE is not currently endorsing any aide training programs.

Question by Rick: what universities offer online bachelor degree in petroleum engineering?
Im looking for univ. or colleges that offer a long distance bachelor degree in this field.
Best answer:
Answer by Gary D
I can’t imagine that you will find one.
If you do, ask what accrediting body accredits their program. Then, check with the accrediting organization to find out whether they’re legit.
It is totally legal to offer a program that is not accredited. However, if you graduate, no employer will accept an unaccredited engineering degree, and you will not be able to apply for the state engineering license.

Question by rosewatershay: Thoughts on pursuing an online degree??? Negative and Positive please?
I am thinking about going back to school to get an MBA. I work in a 24/7 emergency service dept. So the best option may be to go to an online school type program. Are there any suggestions? Has anyone pursued a degree online? If so what are your thoughts? Negative and Positive?
Thanks in advance!

It depends on why you want it. If your current employer will pay a premium to you because you have a piece of paper, then go for it. If you are looking at changing fields or employers, the online programs are pretty much worthless. Very few employers recognize them in the hiring process.

As long as the college (online or campus based) is regionally accredited, any degree you earn should be accepted by any potential employers or other academic institutions.
My best recommendation would be to contact a number of colleges to find the best fit for you and your needs (tuition, schedule, career opportunities, etc.). Too often people enroll in the first school they find rather than taking the time to find the best school for them. Taking that time now could save you a lot of time, money and frustration if you choose the wrong school.
This site has some good info on regionally accredited online degrees and some colleges that offer them to help expand your search:
http://www.ecollegefinder.org
I think you can enter your info on there for any colleges you are interested in and they will send you more info for free. Good Luck!

Question by deafult0011: I want to attend law school but do they recognize online degrees through Kaplan University?
So I spoke to a kapalan advisor and they stated that they have the highest accredidation possible and i am able to transfer to any U once i complete my BA program. The only problem is I don’t know if a law school will accept a ba online degree. I recenetly completed my aa through one of kaplan’s sister school called maric, but i don’t know if their credits are transferable to my state U. I want to eventually go to law schoole but i want to know if i should take the kaplan route or just start all over again at JC. Kaplan said they have an advanced start program since i recieved my aa and i would only have to complete half the time and half the cost since they already give me 90 credits for starting with them and any prereqs i may have completed within my aa. The cost of any BA program through kapalan is 57,000 the advanced start BA program cost 28,000 with the exception you have an (aa,as, etc.). May someone please give me some positive feedback on how i can find me way to law school.
I know that my ugpa has to be excellent and my lsat scores have to be outstanding, but i would still like to know if it’s even accepted say at Stanford. I plan on making my way back to the bay area to attend Santa Clara U or Stanford if and only if the right route is Kaplan.
