@Pelonetillo
I know, I’m not arguing against that.
I’m saying that letting the kid go to South Africa will not lead to kids suing to be allowed to buy porn.
thats the point: its not illegal to discriminate based on age; hence driving, smoking, etc… that its not something illegal is irrelevant, kids can be discriminated against.
@Pelonetillo
yes I know, but it IS ILLEGAL to allow kids to “drive, smoke, drink and buy porn.” What the kid is asking for isn’t something illegal. There’s no law to prevent him to go to South Africa, the school is simply scared to let him go.
@n3wklear – Whatever dude it’s the Internet anyway, but it’s probably not a good idea to be going to strangers and telling them to remove their head from their ass when it was never there in the first place.
i dont know if there are laws on when a child can be tried as an adult. but, i would have no problem challenging these if that were the case. i think the law should be applied consistently, and if it needs to be circumvented for special circumstances, then to me this means the law needs to be refined. capacity is a reasonable thing to consider, but within the confines of the legal system things are a bit arbitrary.
What difference does it make? Simple fact is it is not illegal to deny someone who is 13 years old the same rights and privileges granted to older people.

April 29th, 2010 at 6:22 pm
@Pelonetillo
I just don’t see that as being realistic… well maybe when the proportion of lawyers in the population exceeds 20 parts per thousand.
April 29th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
it certainly could, because then thered be a precedent for fighting discrimination based on age which is exactly what age limit laws do.

it isnt illegal to deny them things adults can take part in, thats the point.
April 29th, 2010 at 8:13 pm
@Pelonetillo
no they won’t. It’s illegal for kids to do all those things. It isn’t illegal for kids to go to South Africa. There’s no comparison.
